Welcome! In 2015 our program applied for and received Osteopathic Recognition through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The MacNeal Internal Medicine Residency Program was one of the first five programs in the country to achieve Osteopathic Recognition. This demonstrates our commitment to osteopathic residency training. We sought out this recognition because we believe that the holistic approach to medicine is one that we know will benefit the patients at MacNeal Hospital.
The Osteopathic Track is open to DOs as well as MDs who are interested in learning more about osteopathic principles and practice. Dual track residents are provided dedicated teaching of osteopathic principles in clinic and on the wards. There is a monthly case based OMT workshop lead by the residents and supervised by osteopathic faculty. MacNeal’s Family Medicine Residency Program has been dually accredited for 20 years. The opportunity for interaction with the Family Medicine osteopathic residents provides additional educational opportunities for the Internal Medicine Osteopathic Track residents.
Additionally, our residents work closely with medical students from Midwestern University, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine which gives them the opportunity to teach and mentor osteopathic students. We encourage our residents to participate in scholarly activity and to submit their works to osteopathic journals and publications.
