Ann Marie Canelas, M.D.

Dr. Ann Marie C. Canelas, MD is an academic physician specializing in Adult Internal Medicine. She has approximately 20 years of varied clinical experiences that include being part of a large, busy private practice group in Maryland as well as several academic positions within university settings. Dr. Canelas enjoys all types of clinical cases but has a special interest in endocrinology and cardiovascular disease. She is currently involved in a clinical trial that is related to inpatient insulin dosing.
She enjoys the challenges of patient care, the rewards of educating and mentoring the next generation of physicians and the organizational and logistical matrix of administrative medicine. Dr. Canelas is the Director of the Internal Medicine Sub-Internship rotation and the ICU curriculum for the Internal Medicine program. Dr. Canelas is an advocate for patient safety and sits on several safety and quality improvement committees. She also is Director of the Internal Medicine Wellness Program.
In working with medical students and residents, Dr. Canelas fulfills her desire to teach and mentor our future physicians. She believes that training programs should provide a safe, nurturing, challenging environment with the goal of developing a physician that can function independently recognizing that positive reinforcement, knowledge and experience are key to developing confidence.
