Rosario is a 60-year old Bedford Park, IL resident who lived a very active lifestyle, which included running marathons and salsa dancing. When her left knee deteriorated to the point she was in constant pain, her doctor suggested knee replacement surgery in 2009. “I was very active for a long time, but I stopped because of the pain,” she explains. Her experience at MacNeal was so positive that she’s been raving about it to friends and family. “Everyone was very nice and the food was very good! The doctor was gentle and explained everything to me every step of the way. The nurses were all very kind.” During group therapy, Rosario met other people who also had knee and hip replacements. “Everyone was in good spirits, which motivated to continue with my therapy.” “My new knee is helping me stay active so I don’t have to rely on anyone. And I’m so glad to be able to join my family now for weekend salsa dancing! I’m back in the groove!”

Barbara is a 69-year old Bridgeview, IL resident who chose MacNeal for both knee replacement surgeries. Her first surgery was five years ago and her second was in 2009. “I was always aching,” says Barbara. “I got tired of being a martyr and told my doctor it was time to replace my other knee. Now, I’m truly bionic!” Due to significant advancements in pain management protocols, Barbara had a much faster recovery after the second surgery with almost no pain. She also says that when she came home after the second surgery, she was immediately able to go up and down stairs. She describes her stay at MacNeal as phenomenal. The staff was truly concerned about me and bent over backwards to meet my needs. They had me moving around fairly quickly after the surgery.” Barbara also went thru post-surgery rehabilitation at MacNeal. “They handled the whole thing!” As a mom and wife with six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, pain free mobility is paramount. “I feel excellent. I’m not limited! I have no pain.
