Prostate Cancer Care
At MacNeal Hospital, our integrated approach to prostate cancer care combines the very latest surgical and non-surgical treatments with a variety of supportive therapies. It's an approach that allows us to realize outcomes equaling those achieved in renowned institutions both locally and nationally.
Your options for treatment include chemotherapy, external or internal radiation, surgery, hormone therapy or a combination of these. Prostate cancer patients are discussed at the weekly tumor board, a meeting of all MacNeal physicians involved in prostate cancer care. This ensures that you—and every other cancer patient treated at MacNeal—receive the most appropriate treatment.
Prostate cancer patients at MacNeal also have available for their treatment a state-of-the-art linear accelerator (LINAC). The LINAC can deliver a highly concentrated dose of x-rays targeted at destroying the cancer cells while sparing the surrounding normal tissue.
As part of your care team, you may see a medical oncologist from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) working exclusively at MacNeal. These physicians have access to many clinical trials of new treatments and protocols. If you qualify for participation in a clinical trial, your MacNeal physician will discuss this with you.
