The Berwyn Radiation Oncology Center offers the full complement of contemporary radiation technologies designed to enhance accuracy, reduce radiation and minimize side effects. The center offers 3-D conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT), intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT). An in-house CT simulator for advanced 3-D computer imaging is available to aid in complex treatment planning. The radiation oncology staff has the ability to fuse MR scans with CT treatment planning data for improved benefit in treating central nervous system malignancies.
Electron beam radiation is available at the Fermi Lab for unresectable sarcomas and parotid tumors. Radiation is delivered by a 21—EX linear accelerator with 6 mev and 12 mev x-ray technology.
Strontium 90 beta irradiation brachytherapy is available for the treatment of patients with pterygium. More recently, accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) was added, and can be used to treat breast cancer in 5 days in qualifying patients.
