Interventional Treatments
Interventional radiologists at Vanguard MacNeal provide a variety of image-guided diagnostic and treatment modalities for cancer, including:
- Core needle and fine-needle aspiration biopsies
- Chemoembolization for metastatic hepatocellular disease
- Cryoablation
- Radiofrequency ablation
- Port catheter placement
- Palliative placement of tunneled peritoneal and fluoral catheters
- PEG feeding tubes
- Transcatheter embolization to stop bleeding
- Kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty to relieve pain from compression fractures or metastatic disease to the spine
- Placement of IVT filters to intercept blood clots
- Bone-marrow biopsy
As members of the Department of Radiology, the interventional radiologists have the capability of taking patients from diagnostic noninvasive studies to minimally invasive biopsies to treatments. This increases ease of scheduling and promotes patient comfort and communication.
