Diagnostic Radiology

The MacNeal Radiology Department provides patients with the latest technologies in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) scanning, nuclear medicine and ultrasound imaging. The many tests/scans that are offered include bone scans, myocardial perfusion imaging, gallium scanning and SPECT imaging.

MacNeal's new 1.5T, open-bore MR unit provides state-of-the-art imaging for cancer patients.

Thyroid ablation and samarium-153 (pain relief for metastatic bone lesions) therapy are available to patients as well.

The Breast Care Center now has four digital mammography units, making it fully digital for both screening and diagnostic mammography. Other services offered in the breast center are breast ultrasound, cyst aspiration, stereotactic biopsy and bone density scans. Breast MRI is available in the hospital for cases not resolved by mammography or ultrasound.

MacNeal's PACS provides immediate availability of all images throughout the hospital and remotely.

At our Riverside location, we offer patients PET/CT exams, combining the functional information from a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) exam with anatomical information from a Computed Tomography (CT) exam in one single exam.
