Congratulations to Susan Morby, RN, BSN, Director of Professional Practice, and Scott Steiner, COO, who have been honored with Vanguard Way Awards for 2010. These annual awards, given at Vanguard's conference, recognize employees from all the system hospitals who are nominated by their co-workers for their outstanding demonstration of Vanguard's values.
Morby, who won in the "Innovation" category, was nominated by the Vanguard MacNeal leadership team for her innovative leadership and the many advances she has spearheaded to improve the professional practice of nursing at Vanguard MacNeal. Some of her many accomplishments include implementation of the nursing councils and shared governance structure, on-site BSN program, nursing research program, and customer service daily rounds.
Steiner, who won in the "Accountability" category, was nominated by Brian Lemon and M.E. Cleary for creating and leading the "Daily Huddle," a daily morning meeting during which hospital leadership gathers to review the prior day's activities and discuss the new day's challenges and opportunities. The huddle culture creates an environment of responsibility and accountability for patient safety, throughput, clinical outcomes, employee engagement, patient satisfaction and other key measurements.
Eva England, RT, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Director, and Claudia Santoyo, RN, BSN, Emergency Department Chest Pain Coordinator, were nominated in the "Excellence" category for their leadership of the Code STEMI team.
